Email Notification Now Available for Tax Payments

July 26, 2017

The IRS has introduced an email feature that enables taxpayers to get notifications in their personal email accounts about their payments using IRS Direct Pay or the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS).

Tax payers can now choose to opt in to receive an email for all payments through EFTPS, including those that are made by a contracted payroll provider.  Individuals who use Direct Pay, can also opt in to receive email notification for each time they make a payment.  The new email notification system is designed to be an added benefit to taxpayers, giving them more digital options when dealing with tax matters.

Please note that there will be no active links in the emailed payment notifications.  The absence of active links should be an indicator to the tax payor that the email is legitimate.  If you receive an email that appears to be from the IRS regarding recent payments and it contains active links, please report the suspicious email to phishing@irs.gov and delete the email right way.
