A Reminder During the Holidays…..

Kathie Gedde, CPA

November 27, 2018

The holiday season is already in full swing, and as much as it can be a welcome distraction can be from our everyday lives, that distraction can cause its own issues as well.

We’ve noticed, here at SGA, an increased number of instances of scam emails and voicemail schemes lately.  The scammers are trying to catch you off guard and get you to react in a way that you might not if you were more focused.

Please continue to be careful of what emails you click on, what attachments you open (if in doubt, just don’t), and what phone calls you answer if you have caller ID and don’t recognize the number.

If you receive a phone call, or even a voicemail later, from someone claiming to be from the IRS, it is likely a scam.  This is especially true if there is any sort of threat involved.  If you have doubts, let SGA know and we can contact the IRS on your behalf to determine if there are any outstanding issues.

The IRS is aware of a number of scams – you can read about them, and report them, at https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-scamsconsumer-alerts.

Have a happy, and cyber-safe, holiday season from us at SGA!
